Sun, sea, surf and Minis

Every mayday bank holiday thousands of Mini enthusiasts make their annual pilgrimage to Riviera Run in Newquay for a weekend of sun, sea, surf, and Minis. Riviera Run is always one of the best shows of the season and this year was no exception – despite the lack of one ingredient – the sun!

Despite the cold wind and cloudy skies this year’s event did not disappoint. Saturday’s cruise from Reading to Newquay attracted hundreds of Minis with more joining at each service station en route.

Arriving at Newquay the run Minis found a number of early arrivals waiting at the gate – beer in hand - cheering as they arrived.

Then on Saturday evening there was an auto-test competition on-site with the fastest male and female winning prizes at Sunday’s prize giving ceremony.

Sunday, and the festival site filled up even more as the day visitors arrived to have a gander at the trade stands and look at the fantastic Minis entered in the show’n’shine competition. This was rounded off with an organised cruise around the beautiful Cornish countryside before the weekend visitors headed back to the site for the evenings entertainment.

The holiday park put on entertainment every evening and you could choose between cabaret and comedy or an onsite nightclub. As always a number of Mini clubs were keen to make in impression in fancy dress and one of this year’s more unusual sites was a group of Grim Reapers, complete with scythes, dancing the night away in the cabaret club!

The Mini centred events finished on the Monday with people making a last dash to the trade stands to get those last bits before they close, but the evening entertainment carried on for the rest of the week and guests could stay on for the rest of the week at no extra cost.
