The Lakeland Tour, an event about the essence of Mini ownership – driving and having fun - was back for 2006 and this event was as good as any previous one.

The weekend began with the ferry raid on Saturday morning. Around fifty Minis, split into two groups, started out at the campsite in Pooley Bridge, near Penrith and headed for separate sides of Windermere Lake and took over the Windermere ferry for a short time. Twenty-five Minis managed to cram onto a boat built to accommodate 18 normal sized cars and raised a few eyebrows in the process.

Then it was off in your Mini charging around the beautiful Cumbrian countryside on a treasure hunt. Each car had to navigate their way across the countryside using the clues provided. The clues lead you to a mystery town where you had to collect some rather random objects including, a blue flower and some sheep’s wool!

After all that driving it was back to the campsite for some specially arranged entertainment in the Mini Mad Merseyside club tent. Then attempting to get an early night ready for tomorrow’s tour.

Sunday saw all the Minis heading off on a tour taking in around 150 miles of spectacular Lakeland countryside. Each car was given a briefing and some drivers notes to help them navigate their way through water splashes, across stunning mountain passes and through lovely Cumbrian villages.

The drivers notes were split into stages so it was easy to stop for a drink and lunch with some other Mini fans in a quaint Lakeland pub. The tour took you full circle and ended back at the campsite just in time to pack up and head home in time for a Sunday evening dose of Top Gear!
